The Back in Time Tarot: Exercise 2

by Michael on August 28, 2011

So with yesterdays first exercise, I really learned a lot. It was really great to look at the cards and see how/why I associated a specific card with a specific situation/feeling/time… Definitely opening my awareness more!

-Think of a time that felt mysterious or laden with secrets. Who are what was involved? Which cards remind you of the situation?

The first thing that came to mind is when I first visited ‘Ancient Ways’ a metaphysical bookstore with my best friend at the time Nicole. What stands out is what I felt upon entering the store, the magic, the energy, the buzz. The second thing that stood out was the onlookers… the people passing the store looking sort of nervous, sort of disgusted. The Third thing that stood out was The Rider Waite tarot! My Baby! Fourth thing that stood out was the very manly woman that rung up my purchase. She had quite a deep voice, short hair and she was like on a pedestal or something she looked down at me and she said LOOK.. This shit isn’t to be played with, you better know what you are doing because whatever you send out will come back to bite you in the ass.

Ace of Pentacles (Entering Ancient Ways) – I Chose this card because I associate the Aces with Divine Gifts.. Pentacles associated with the Earth and Ancient Ways being a store that sold goods, as well as housed Crystals and other things OF the earth. naturally would be associated with this suit. This card embodies all that I felt as I felt the connection from spirit as well as to the physical plane, I went through a door and was forever changed.

Queen of Cups (Onlookers, Judgmental/Fearing?) – The Queen of Cups really stands out for me in this situation. I could see the people speeding by as if they were afraid. Cups representing and dealing with emotions. The Queen looks deep into the cup she holds she is looking towards the left or towards the back which I associate with the past and I knew that these individuals were making judgments based on fear of what they were taught in the past about such places or such people who enter such places. Also if you look at the Ace of Pentacles place in line before the Queen, the Ace is open and pushing forward and the queen is faced towards the Ace looking at it but at the same time NOT… Very intriguing.

The Fool (The Rider Waite/Smith Tarot) - This is the perfect card for what I felt when I saw this deck. It represents the feeling of wonderment!  A Connection like we’ve met before. Also the desire to jump right in and forget the rest. Also the Fool can represent the deck as well, as the Fool carries all the cards and knowledge of the cards with him and within his sack.

King of Pentacles (Masculine Woman with a Warning) – This I choose for the Woman because she was rather indulgent, also she is associated with money as she wanted to take mine but at the same time she had knowledge and experience and wanted to make sure I didn’t play with energies I didn’t understand. The King also looks to the future slightly with the experience and knowledge from the past in order to grow his kingdom. Therefore she was wishing to pass on information to someone in her community that was a child of sorts but someone who would grow into the person I would grow into icon smile The Back in Time Tarot: Exercise 2 her hopes maybe but nonetheless she was very demanding.

-Have you ever encountered someone who held beliefs different from yours or engaged in behavior that was quite different from your own? How would you re-create your thoughts and reactions using the Tarot?

I know someone who really has a strong distaste for men. They think that we are worthless and we cannot do our jobs right in the industry they are in and that we are just lazy and do absolutely nothing. Obviously my beliefs are the exact opposite with the only exception that there are individuals (including men) out there who do fit the category but not always.

7 of Wands - I chose this card because when I met this person and found out about their beliefs it clicked as to why I was constantly fighting against them, why I was not good enough, why I was always second best or last choice. This card to me represents the constant battle I was in with their thoughts and beliefs and the constant battle I was in with my own frustrating energy towards this person.

The Devil – This represents how I felt, I felt trapped, my thoughts and re-actions were chained down as I was not able to express this due to the possibility of my job being threatened.

The Hermit – I eventually learned to look within, to channel my own energy and create a bubble of clarity that surrounded me that lit the way for me so that their perceptions did not dictate as to what I was to do.

Think of a historical figure, famous person, or character that couldn’t leave well enough alone. What do you suppose drove them, and where did their persistence and/or curiosity lead them? Select cards to represent the circumstances.

BUFFY!!!  While there are so many different cards that can represent her I feel like in this circumstance The Fool & The Tower work best together. She is driven by the sense of The Fool, she knows she has what it takes to help not just herself but the world, a call to be of service with the hopes to one day be able to hang up her bag and just enjoy what she has worked so hard at.  The Tower also drives her as she knows if she were not to do her service, to add her gifts to the world then all hell would break loose. That her light is needed in her world and if her light were to be stagnant or dimmed, the world could end.

And so ends this exercise.. WHEW What a long journey it has been.
